I have a question about puppy training?..?

I have a couple questions, since I'm getting my first puppy tomarrow :) Anyway, when we go out of the house for a while, should I leave her in a crate, or should I leave her in a play pin in the kitchen or the bathroom?.. Both of our kitchen, and all the bathrooms in my house have laminate flooring (not sure if I spelled that right or not). And also for night time, when everybodies asleep should I leave the lights on or off for her?.. Because we're planning on leaving her in my bathroom. What should I do?..
