What color walls to go with black furniture and hardwood ceilings?

this is for my living room and computer room. we have stained hardwood ceilings, black and white laminate marble/granite design tile, and black furniture, black corduroy curtains, and black tv/stand. and some mirrors and desks that are antique style wood./stained.. i am thinking dark red, but my husband thinks painting the walls red will make us angry because its an angry color or a negative color or something.. but white gets too dirty..we have an almost 2 yr old little girl.. please help.. lol we have kind of dim lighting as well.
