What is the view that Italian men have about women in Italy?

According to this article about Sicily's weddings and marriages, Sicily is still rather old-fashioned when it comes to it's views of women, women's role in marriage, at work and in society. Women didn't get the vote until 1946 and divorce didn't become legal until the 1970's. It sounds like men and women both cheat, and both respect family and marriage vows.
